Massachusetts Department of Transportation Changes in Regulations

Massachusetts DOT will now require vehicles used for business and have a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or higher have a DOT number.  DOT holders will need to comply with DOT Safety Requirements and Driver Qualification File Requirements as well as other regulations.  This requirement applies to vehicle/trailer combinations with a combined gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or higher.

Previously regulations only applied to vehicles that crossed into other states, but now applies to ALL vehicles and/or trailer combinations of 10,001 pounds or more with very limited exceptions.  The non-compliant vehicle owners could incur significant fines starting 1/1/2019.
